Famous Fictional Dentists

Last time on the blog, we came down kind of hard on you. You must understand, sweets are the enemy of us at Dr. Rose’s. To make up for the rather rough treatment we gave sweets, let’s have some fun. This time we’re covering a few fictional dentists!

Bernard Nadler in LOST

Bernard and his wife Rose were onboard Oceanic Flight 815 when it crashed on the Island. The two were separated in the crash, and they spent the first couple seasons trying to reunite. Having a dentist on a deserted island would no doubt be useful, so long as he has a couple of his tools with him! Spoiler alert: his dentist skills never come up.

Jeremy Hillary Boob in Yellow Submarine

The strange entity that is Jeremy Hillary Boob appeared in the Beatles 1968 animated film. He identifies as “eminent physicist, polyglot classicist, prize-winning botanist, hard-biting satirist, talented pianist, good dentist too.” While the audience sees him practicing many skills, dentistry is not one of them.

Dr. Dillingham in Prostho Plus

Dr. Dillingham is a prosthodontist (a dentist specializing in prosthetics) who finds himself kidnapped by aliens in need of dental work. He goes to the Galactic University of Dentistry, graduates, and treats several unusual clients. So far that’s one who does his job!

Wilbur Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Portrayed by Christopher Lee in the 2005 adaptation of the book, Wilbur Wonka is Willy Wonka’s father. He forbade Willy form enjoying any sort of candy, as it would ruin his teeth. We’re really not all that bad guys we swear!

Dr. Mindbender in G.I. Joe (Various)

Dr. Mindbender was once, as so many of us are, a peace-loving orthodontist. He created a machine to relieve dental pain using electric brainwave stimulation. When testing it on himself, he went mad and joined up with Cobra. While mad he did maintain his intellect. His orthodontist skills have since been unseen.

Jeez, just looking at that list you’d think dentists are a bunch of wild characters (well, maybe aside from Bernard.) While we’d like to think we’re just as interesting, we can say for certain that we have not been stuck on an island, captured by aliens, in a yellow submarine, nor gone mad with our dentist inventions. Probably. We’ll catch you next time on the blog, til then keep flossing!
